Shield Technology has three products designed specifically for inhibiting piston aero engines and classic car and motorcycle engines, they are EngineGuard Aero and EngineGuard Classic and EngineGuard Moto (available from January 2010). Inhibiting oil additives should be used whenever an engine is in storage or used infrequently. They can also be used to prevent internal corrosion and degeneration of engines in museums - typically those which may be awaiting restoration. For information on the testing procedure for EngineGuard Aero & Classic & Moto click here.
EngineGuard Aero has been specifically formulated to provide outstanding protection to Aero engines that are used infrequently or that are inhibited and in long term storage.
EngineGuard Aero contains both contact and vapour phase corrosion inhibitors. The VCI component provides protection even if the liquid is not in contact with the internal surfaces of the engine. The base product of EngineGuard Aero is a highly refined mineral oil, which means it is compatible with the majority of aero engine lubricants.
The effectiveness of the VCI compound has been comprehensively tested. It is both fast acting and long lasting. It does not have to be drained-down prior to running the engine.
Dosage. For the majority of light aircraft engines, add approx. 100 to 125ml to the sump. For long-term storage, where possible, block off breather pipes and exhaust/inlet ports and insert a rag dampened with EngineGuard Aero into each exhaust and inlet port. Close with purpose made blanking plugs or poly bags. It is not essential for the system to be 100% sealed for EngineGuard Aero to give protection.
EngineGuard Aero 250ml tin RRP £20.70
EngineGuard Aero 1 litre tin RRP £65.50
EngineGuard Classic has been specifically formulated to provide outstanding protection to Classic, Vintage and Veteran car engines that are used infrequently or that are inhibited and in long-term storage.
EngineGuard Classic contains both contact and vapour phase corrosion inhibitors. The VCI component provides protection even if the liquid is not in contact with the internal surfaces of the engine. The base product of EngineGuard Classic is a highly refined mineral oil blended to be compatible with all straight mineral oils and semi-synthetic engine lubricants, which means it is compatible with the majority of classic vehicle engine lubricants.
The effectiveness of the VCI compound has been comprehensively tested. It is both fast acting and long lasting. It does not have to be drained down prior to running the engine.
Dosage. For the majority of car engines add approx 50 to 75ml to the sump.
For large V8 and V12 engines of 3 litres and above, the dosage should be approx 100 to 125ml. For long-term storage of engines removed from the vehicle, where possible, block off breather pipes and exhaust/inlet ports and insert a rag dampened with EngineGuard Classic into each exhaust and inlet port. Close with purpose made blanking plugs or poly bags. It is not essential for the system to be 100% sealed for EngineGuard Classic to give protection.
EngineGuard Classic 250ml tin RRP £20.70

EngineGuard Moto has been specifically formulated to provide outstanding protection to Classic, Vintage and Veteran motorcycle engines that are used infrequently or that are inhibited and in long-term storage.
EngineGuard Moto contains both contact and vapour phase corrosion inhibitors. The VCI component provides protection even if the liquid is not in contact with the internal surfaces of the engine. The base product of EngineGuard Classic is a highly refined mineral oil blended to be compatible with all straight mineral oils and semi-synthetic engine lubricants, making it compatible with the majority of motorcycle engine lubricants.
It is NOT compatible with fully synthetic oils used to lubricate more modern motorcycle engines. Neither is it compatible with castor based oils - Castrol R for instance, typically used in engines which use methanol as the fuel.
The effectiveness of the VCI compound has been comprehensively tested. It is both fast acting and long lasting. It does not have to be drained down prior to running the engine.
Dosage. For the majority of engines add approx. 50 to 75ml to the sump. For prolonged storage, remove spark plugs and inject 10 to 15ml into each cyclinder. Insert a rag or other absorbent material dampened with EngineGuard Moto into the exhaust pipe(s) and carburettor. Close with purpose made blanking plugs or poly bags. It is not essential for the system to be 100% sealed for EngineGuard Moto to give protection.
